Born of her father Zeus's brain, Athéna, the protector of mortals, became goddess of war, wisdom and knowledge.

Since the dawn of manking, the chevêche owl has been a powerful symbol of constancy, wisdom and protection. A nocturnal bird, it is close to the kingdom of the dead and divinity, which has brought it, among superstitious people, a most unfair reputation.

Well, enaugh with symbolisme...the Chevêche owl is above all a lovely little ball of feathers, that regulates the population of rodents and remains faithful to the same roof for years if it is left in peace.

Like most nocturnal birds of prey, it looks you straight in the eye. Its own eyes are on the frontal zone, like ours, which gives it a penetrating and familiar look.

The Mas des Chevêches was named after its little occupants. Every year, two or three baby Chevêches are born and take flight from the ochre-tiled roof. If you are attentive, you may see and hear them...
